Belly Dance Class In Malaysia
Belly dance or Bellydance is the name commonly used in Western countries to apply to traditional Middle Eastern dance, specifically Egyptian ghawazi dance in the 19th century, and raqs sharqi (Arabic: رقص شرقي) in the 20th century. The term is sometimes extended to include all traditional Middle Eastern dances. More recently, belly dancing has also been adopted in the West as a fitness program.
The term "belly dance" is a translation of the French danse du ventre which was applied[by whom?] to oriental dance around the Victorian era. The term is somewhat misleading, as belly movements are only a small part of the dance. The most featured part of the body is usually the hips.
Belly dance takes different forms in different regions, both in costume and dance style, and new styles have evolved in the West as its popularity has spread globally.

Dance Courses
Many dance styles are offered at The Temple of Fine Arts, with part time courses for both group and individual students. These are Bharatanatyam, Odissi, Kuchipudi, Contemporary, Kathak and Bollywood.
BHARATANATYAM Classes: One and a half hour duration / 1x per week * Fees: RM60 per month * Features scheduled assessments of student learning * Examinations required for each level
The course comprises 5 stages. The beginner learns basic adavus and introductory dance history and theory before moving onto simple dance items such kauthvams and pushpanjali. Stage Two and Three students learn the alarippu, jathiswaram, and short pieces in abhinaya such as sabdam. Stage Four and Five students essay the varnam and thillana. All students who imminently qualify to sit for the margam or final examinations are encouraged to perform their arangetram or solo debut.

Sutra Dance Theatre was established in 1983 by Ramli Ibrahim to explore, promote awareness and develop traditional and contemporary performing arts in Malaysia through the creation of strong original works.
Over the years, Sutra has staged productions that have received national and international acclaim for their excellent and innovative theatre presentations, thus gaining an impressive track record of artistic achievement.
